    War of 1812 Fan Cockade.
This fan style cockade was commonly worn by Militia units during the War of 1812. It is based off from an original displayed at Fort Meigs in Perrysburg, Ohio. This cockade is embossed on heavy 7-8 ounce leather and hand trimmed around the edges. Since each item is handcrafted, you may notice a slight difference from the one pictured and the one that you receive. The one on display at Fort Meigs is said to have been worn by Private Joseph Osborn, a member of the Ohio Militia, at the surrender of Detroit on August 16, 1812. The cockade measures, 3 1/2" wide and 5 1/4" inches high.
