27.9 cm and contains 40 pages with Editor-Publisher William G. Dulmaine, Jr.
The cover photo by T.J. McNamara shown an eastbound at West Pawling, New York,
in September 1952. The inside front cover shows 0400's westbound under wire
close to Woodmont. TROLLEY STOP by C.A. Brown is titled THE CORD WOOD
LOCOMOTIVE and features No. 030 of the Berkshire Street Railway on a single
page, complete with 3 photos. No. 030 delivered carload freight from the BSR to
the NYNH&H interchange at Lee and ended its days at General Electric in
Pittsfield. CANTON JUNCTION, Part Three, by E.D. Galvin continues this fascinating
single-location saga as we enter the 20th century with Chapter Six. This
installment covers 8 pages and includes 12 photographs and a large map, spread
across 2 pages, of the Revere Copper Company and Kingsley Iron and Machine
Company, and their relationship to the Viaduct and Stoughton Branch as shown
below, with as much as our small scanner would allow. Most of the photos deal
with the 2 companies just mentioned and provide good fodder for the
turn-of-the-century industrial building modeler. HOWARD FOGG'S RS-2 PRINT fills
a page with a letter from the artist, which will be of interest to anyone who
loves fine railroad scene paintings. THE 400's, THE NEW HAVEN'S ALCO FA FLEET
by Ken Patton does justice to these fabulous machines on 20 pages, with more to
come, including 29 photos, plus the 3 on the front, inside front and rear
covers. Of those 32 photos, 7 are in color, one spread over 2 pages in the
centerfold as shown below, and all that made this an expensive magazine to
produce. A profile of the Maybrook Line; Engine Assignment as of 10/2/50;
single unit tonnage ratings; a detailed A unit drawing; the East Walden wreck
story are all boxed additions to the detailed text and extravagant photography.
The New Haven treated its ALCO's well and in turn, ALCO did wonders for the New
Haven RR. "WIRE TRAIN" fills 3 pages with miscellaneous items
including product and book reviews, a memorial notice of the passing of Richard
Bonelli, Sr., and 2 photos of the Derby 1888 electric locomotive at the Branford
Trolley Museum, now known as the Shore Line Trolley Museum. MODELING THE NEW
HAVEN, Backdating The Custom Brass EP-1 by Bob Rzasa fills 3 pages with 3 model
photos, 1 prototype photo and 5 how-to-do-it diagrams. For HO scale, the model
is quite impressive! The rear cover is another 400 scene at Turkey Brook in a
February 1948 Kent Cochrane photo. This magazine is in unread, new-old-stock, nearly
