Description
In very good condition. This is a Top-Quality CD of 1047 Rock Island Railroad train order images, covering the entire Tucumcari Line between Herington, Kansas and Tucumcari, New Mexico. We called it the WEST END on the Rock Island. Included is 1 station list showing each location and the number of orders copied at that location.Also included is a small timetable compendium of 6 employee timetables, and one system public timetable, covering this line and much more. These timetables are:
CRI&P Missouri-Kansas Division ETT #1 12-28-1969 32 pages;
CRI&P Missouri-Kansas Division ETT #3 12-29-1974 36 pages;
CRI&P Missouri-Kansas Division ETT #6 10-31-1965 16 pages;
CRI&P Missouri-Kansas Division ETT #7 10-30-1966 15 pages;
CRI&P Missouri-Kansas Division ETT #8 7-30-1967 12 pages;
CRI&P Missouri-Kansas Division ETT #9 9-29-1968 13 pages; and
CRI&P system public timetable dated 10-27-1957 20 pages.
These employee and public timetables cover all of this territory, and then some, so you can see where each location was, with respect to the others. This was a very strategic piece of Railroad, and was train-order territory up until the ROCK went out of business in 1980. Even after this, the Cotton Rock continued to use train orders up into late 1985, when track warrants and track bulletins took over.
This CD is made up entirely of main-line movement. No branch lines are included. With this line, the Rock Island was able to maintain a very good business hauling perishable loads eastbound, and autos, auto parts, and merchandise westbound. This line became the "Cotton-Rock" in later years after the Rock Island went out of business on March 30, 1980. A very sad day indeed.
Also included are some very rare and interesting items: There are 377 pages of freight train consists from off this line, inbound to Herington, Kansas. These cover 71 eastbound trains. See the detailed information sheet next to the station list for details on how to read and understand these consists. These were very hard to secure unless you knew they even existed. All of these consists were used by 2 crews: from Liberal to Pratt (133 miles), then from Pratt to Herington (126 miles). They cover a very short time frame, all in 1968. By this time, the ROCK was using SP run-through power in addition to their own engines. Page One of each consist is marked (by me) with the train information, including all engines and caboose numbers, loads, mtys and tons, and number of perishable loads in each train. A few of these were Overflow Freight Manifest trains (OFM's) that hauled anything from more perishable to many other types of loads and empties. This is some really good reading, and I am pleased to offer these items included in this train order CD. Again, please read (and print off if you like), the information sheet right behind the station list at the front of the CD. All Consists are included in their own separate folder.
These consists list hundreds of loaded PFE (Pacific Fruit Express) reefers, and other Railroads' and private lines' refrigerator cars as well. Pacific Fruit Express eas jointly owned by Southern Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads.
There are 37 different train order locations represented here, with at least one train order image from each one. Ages of the orders range from 1910 to 1980, the last year of the ROCK's operations. A few of these orders mention Rock Island steam engines. As stated above, all of the consists are from 1968.
The 12 pictures shown are just a sampling of the quantity and variety of locations and operations unique to this long and very strategic piece of Railroad.
The orders and consists in this CD show many engine numbers (a few steam in the train orders), track conditions, operating procedures, and all kinds of meets and flag orders, all consistent with train-order operation. This is some of the best Railroad reading anywhere.
Very nice items that are obsolete and no longer used by any Railroad.
