    Description

Your bid is for the August 1941 issue of RAILROAD MAGAZINE, which is Volume 30, Number 3, published by the Frank A. Munsey Company of 280 Broadway in New York City. This issue measures a digest-sized 16.7 by 23.9 cm and contains 144 pages, plus the wraps. The front cover painting by A. Sheldon Pennoyer shows the Old Nevada Central Narrow-Gage. SUNSET OF THE NARROW-GAGE by Linwood W. Moody fills 28 pages and who better to write about such things than this writer and editor and Maine Man who authored the now famous book: THE MAINE TWO-FOOTERS. This article is about Maine, of course, but also California, Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. With a handy dandy map to show what was running where. There are 30 illustrations, many of those being rare photos, plus Linwood's always clear and lively text. A classic RM article if there ever was one! THE SHORTEST R.P.O. ROUTE by Esker W. Davis describes the Thurmond & Price Hill R.P.O. that ran 11.65 miles on the C&O's Loup Creek Branch. If you pay attention the next time you ride the Cardinal thru Thurmond, you'll see the bridge over the New River that the R.P.O. traveled on. This article is on 4 pages with a map and 2 photos. LOCOMOTIVES OF THE PENNSYLVANIA (PART 2) are rostered over 8 pages including 6 photos. Light of the Lantern devotes 7 pages to Locomotive Tanks. There are 10 drawings and 3 photos so you get the picture of the immense variety that existed and the reasons why. TRUE TALES OF THE RAILS starts off with THE GLORIOUS FOURTH by Merle Dunlap takes us back to the Fourth of July 1912 on the D&RG narrow gauge over 5 pages followed by LUCKY BRAKEMAN by Robert M.P. Burnet on the Iowa Central, later M&StL, also in 1912, spread over 6 pages. SUMMER EXCURSIONS fills 9 pages of where you could go and why you may wish to do so and what it would cost. FICTION is STUDENT SWITCHMAN by Engineer William J. Parry on 11 pages and a Novelet: JIM HILL ROAD by Ex-Brakeman E.S. Dellinger over 25 pages. The editor certainly wanted you to know these fiction writers knew what they were writing about. Dellinger has appeared in most issues of RM since 1929! POPULAR DEPARTMENTS are five and Model Railroading features A Greenhouse Layout while On the Spot treats you to 15 pages of trivia and commentary and unique photos that is always voted a favorite by the readers. And a lot more in this great book. This magazine is in excellent, museum-quality condition as these old pulps go. The spine is professionally protected against deterioration and contamination with Scotch No.845 Book Tape.
Your satisfaction guaranteed. Please see my other eBay auctions for more rare and scarce railroad paper. I provide personal service without silly eBay games like waiting for payment before shipping, mandated payment methods, clumsy communications and charging for return shipping. Please check my feedback and DSR's. Everything I sell is POSTPAID USA, so the winning bid is what you pay, plus eBay’s state tax if applicable, unless you want special services. I normally ship first day after auction ends IF I have a payment plan & a proper shipping address, or you are a recent previous buyer. Thank you for reading.
