    Description

Your bid is for the NEW ENGLAND STATES LIMITED, Volume 2, Number 2, published by the New England Rail Service of Keene, New Hampshire, with a date of Fall 1978. This issue measures 21.3 by 27.9 cm and contains 40 pages with Donald B. Valentine, Jr. as Editor and Publisher. The front cover shows Claremont & Concord Railway GE 44-tonner No.31 near Claremont on 27 March 1974. The rear cover is two more C&C color photos of along-the-highway running and about to enter the Kellyville covered bridge in the same time period. In Running Extra, Editor Valentine explains why The Back Shop has been expanded. New England Rail News presents 6 photos and news that is now ancient rail history. Then Gregg M. Turner and Alice A. Ramsdell continue with CONNECTICUT RAILROADS - PART TWO: "A Nutmeg First" on 12 pages with 2 VERY early locomotive photos, steamships, and contrasts such as the I-4 Pacifics and the ACF Talgo. A full page New York, Providence & Boston Railroad roster makes an interesting study of who built what, where and when. A total of 20 photos and several maps makes for a great Connecticut railroad study. Then comes A DAY AT CLAREMONT by Brent P. Michiels, who provides us detailed insight on what the Claremont & Concord Railway accomplished on an ordinary business day in July 1978. This piece covers 5 pages with 7 photos, text and a map. A SHORT HISTORY OF RAILROAD TRANSPORTATION IN ESSEX COUNTY, MASSACHUSETTS by Hilbrith J. Barrows
is a lot more interesting than the title sounds. Essex County is the extreme northeast section of the Commonwealth and the Eastern RR was a fascinating study in competition and innovation. This article covers 7 pages and contains 9 period photos only to be followed by IMAGES!! with 2 more pages of 6 photos of: A potpourri of Essex County railroading in the closing years of steam.
The Back Shop, as promised, is expanded to over 5 pages and covers various prototypes for modeling as well as a review of PFM's CV 2-10-4 model. 12 photos of both models and prototype rolling stock are included. FYI: there was no subscriber's newsletter published with V2#2. This magazine is in excellent, new-old-stock, unread, museum-quality condition with just a coating of staple rust from unheated Vermont storage. Your satisfaction guaranteed. Please see my other eBay auctions for more rare and scarce railroad paper. I provide personal service without silly eBay games like waiting for payment before shipping, mandated payment methods, clumsy communications and charging for return shipping. Please check my feedback and DSR's. Everything I sell is POSTPAID USA, so the winning bid is what you pay, plus eBay’s state tax if applicable, unless you want special services. I normally ship first day after auction ends IF I have a payment plan & a proper shipping address, or you are a recent previous buyer. Thank you for reading.
