Some Background info to this historic mexican Flag
Its name is due to its creator, Generalissimo José María Morelos y Pavón (1765-1815), who was an important leader in the Mexican independence movement.
When Miguel Hidalgo died, the insurgent forces held a meeting to organize their command.
This meeting was held in 1811 and is known as the Junta de Zitácuaro.
At this meeting the bases of a revolutionary form of government were outlined.
They also agreed to a coat of arms that they would use in all kinds of official documents.
In that shield an eagle appears perched on a cactus and this, in turn, on a castle.
Between the eagle and the cactus is the Latin word UNUM, which means "union". The central image is surrounded by the phrase:
"Oculis et inguibus aequé victrix",  which means "With eyes and claws equally victorious."
