Description

Offered for your consideration is A HAND CARVED KAMAGONG IRONWOOD RHINOCEROS. This was purchased by me in the Phillipines in the late 1960's. Really uncertain about his lineage, but he's always been a rhino to us. Uncertain about pricing due to flaws. Offers are welcome.
*NOTE* There is damage to his horn. See last two photos. The slice running lengthwise has always been there. If you turn him the proper way, he shows just fine. The crack around the entire front horn has gone unnoticed these many years. Not sure if it is in fact a repair done God knows when by whom, or if it is a stress crack. I cannot feel any loosening nor the crack itself. It's stable and he's quite handsome in spite of flaws. *NOTE*
Over four years I acquired many pieces because I admired the modernistic style. The government then put a moratorium on kamagong wood since the supply was depleting.
MEASURES: 4" high x 2" wide 6" long approximately. Weight 1 pound.
This is NOT ironwood but is often mistakenly identified as such because it is so heavy. These pieces have been in our possession and well cared for since their acquisition. They are genuine kamagong figures hand carved by natives of Baguio City in northern Luzan. These facts apply to all the Philippino carvings we are offering at this time. The photos show both the beauty of design and the beauty in the natural design of the wood.
We've taken many photos so please do have a look. They are a major part of our description.
