Description
This is a paper sewing pattern. The Habit-Longe of the Fusilier is made from Imperial Blue wool, (deep, dark blue) Scarlet Red collar, and Natural White wools. The tails fall to the bend at the back of the knee. The front falls to the base of the sternum, and then is cut away. The Habit-Longe is worn over a gilet, a sleeveless wool vest.
Details are: Imperial Blue body and sleeves, Scarlet cuffs edged in White, Scarlet collar and cuffs edged in White, coat skirts lined with White wool, pocket flaps of Imperial Blue edged in Scarlet. Imperial Blue shoulder straps are edged in Scarlet. Two real pockets are inside the tails, an option of adding a chest pocket is on the pattern, which is a non-historical addition. Upper body and sleeves are lined with Natural color linen. The habit-veste requires 8 large buttons and 22 small buttons. The front closes with 5 or 6 fur or coat hooks. The collar closes with 3 large hooks and eyes (size 3). The tail tips are held together by coat hooks. The Habit-Longe has raw edge construction and machine stitching for interior seams. Raw edge construction means that there are no turned under hems, the cut edge of the fabric is the finished hem. Visible details are hand stitches.
Please be
aware that military uniforms of the times had similar styles, so this could be adapted for other nationalities by changing fabric colors and details.
I developed my own patterns for this reenactment hobby to help clothe our troops. My main resource was plates form "Uniformes de L'armee Francasies, De Fountenoy a Waterloo" by Michael Petard.
These patterns are based on American standard chest sizes of 38/40, 42/44 and 46/48 inches.
This auction is for the 42/44 inches size. In centimeters this size is 107/112.
The pattern is printed on bond paper and has complete instructions with illustrations.
