The publication is the first complete catalog of works by corresponding member of the Russian Academy of arts, battle artist Alexander Averyanov. The catalog includes descriptions of 239 paintings and graphic works of the master: large-scale battle paintings, genre historical sketches, illustrations, portraits and landscapes. 76 of them are presented in the album part of the publication. Images are accompanied by annotations that reveal their content. Many of the artist’s works are published for the first time.
Averyanov’s creative work is a vivid example of his own artistic path and individual style. The author’s uniqueness of the artist belongs to a large battle genre and is primarily associated with the Era of 1812. In this direction of painting, he is today one of the most important and experienced masters. The pictorial chronicle of the events of the Napoleonic wars in the works of Averyanov clearly presents a modern audience with a reliable view of the war of 1812. Landscapes, portraits, and still lifes also demonstrate the artist’s high level of pictorial art.
